It’s Amazon Prime Day, a once-a-year extravaganza where Amazon deeply discounts tons of products that you don’t really need to make you feel good about being an Amazon Prime subscriber. Did you find some good deals?
I don’t feel great about Prime Day.
Here’s the song:
The idea for “Amazon Song” came while riding in an Uber to the Dallas/Ft Worth airport. The driver was telling us about the imminent opening of an Amazon distribution center, how many people in his community were viewing it as a savior, a great opportunity for jobs that would help a lot of people. He was probably right; he knows his community better than me. But I also couldn’t help but think of the stories I’d read about working conditions in these distribution centers…physically demanding work with extremely high expectations for very little pay.
(The irony of having these thoughts while riding in an Uber is not lost on me.)
So, after doing quite a bit of research, I wrote “Amazon Song” about a suburban single dad who’s been working at this Dallas distribution center for a few years. The Lampoliers (Josh, Marshall, & Anthony) play on it with me, Michael Clebanoff mixed it, and Richard Dodd mastered the track.
It’ll be on our upcoming album, All the Lies That I Have Told, joining the previously released “From a Golden State” and “Willie Nelson.” You can pre-order the digital album or order a CD here, or stream the previously released singles anywhere there’s music online.
