At just about every show, someone comes up afterwards and this exchange takes place:
“So did you live in Boulder?”
“No, it just seems like a romantic place in my mind.”
“But you’ve been there, right?”
“Never been there. I spent a lot of time on their Chamber of Commerce site and Google Maps when I was writing the song.”
[Person is disappointed, walks away muttering about what a fraud I am.]
[Hopefully not that last part.]
But no more!!! I made a 48 hour tour stopover in Boulder, CO, and visited the places mentioned in the song. I also played an impromptu set at really cool bar and went to a fun open mic. Yes, I played “Boulder”. Yes, it was kind of awkward at first. And yes, they told me that they loved it. (They may have just been being nice. I didn’t care, I was really happy.)
So if you’ve ever been curious, here it is! The upper-right is the Chautauqua green (under the snow). How perfect is the house on 5th and Arapahoe?
